This is a very clear and simple article about the difference between Streaming vs. Progressive Download of Videos. It's a little bit old (2003) but the concept is still valid.

And talking about streaming video, Hulu has a demo HD Gallery 720p (1280 x 720). This is not the so called full HD (1080p) but it bring us a very good example of HD video. (be patient if you are not using a fast broadband connection).
